Creation process for happening
This has been a process for sure. Who would have thought trolls could have such interesting lives? The hunt for the right places for them to move into as well as what kind of furnishings do they like, who do they want to live next to; all swirled through my mind. They all have such unique perspectives on life and death! Eventually they worked it out and everyone seems to be happy in their new digs. But believe me, they have stories to tell if anyone wants to stop by to hear them on the night of the Happening!!!

Trolls, Trolls,Trolls
I found this image by John Bauer. He wrote: Look at them troll mother said. Look at my sons! You won't find more beautiful trolls this side of the moon (1915). This image was rendered so beautifully it is hard to read that the Norse, Scandanavian and Germanic people considered them ugly, stupid and hostile monsters. This is quite beautiful to me.

Drawing from Within
The intense but definitely worth the work class Peter London resided over a few weeks ago was challenging and brought a lot of deep emotions and thoughts. The piece on the right was one that came out of part of the work and for me signifies my seven stars, my kids and their significant others. This is a piece I think I will add to over time to include my going on five grandkids, more stars brought down from the sky to bless my life. The piece on the left is from Karen Sjoholm's Creativity and Consciousness and was my take on the black box and my inner opposite.

Creative Video Performances
I realize this is a car commercial, yet when I saw it I thought, "whoever decided to take a fantasy from a land far far away and turn it into a creative force was damn good." So here is.....

Sha Sha Higby
Sha Sha is amazing to me. After I saw her performance in an art history class I was entranced. I grew up in dance and ballet and it is still a huge part of my life but her movements are mezmerizing. JJ when you said you had seen one of her performances that blew me away and I hope to see her someday. Thanks for sharing my thoughts about her sculptures, costumes, performance and attitudes. I have included a link to the UTube on The Glass Jungle. Enjoy!

ATA Gallery and Craig Baldwin
Our SF fieldtrip was a blast. I started off meeting up with Elizabeth and Sara to take Bart to the city. We toured the Mission District and stopped by a video film company, then hit up a few places to get inspiration for our 3D projects followed up by dinner at an awesome falafel place close to ATA. Then we met up with everyone else and Robyn and spent the next three hours trying to absorb as much as possible from Craig Baldwin who proceeded to give us a humongous video history lesson. This man is amazing and his knowledge is off the charts. However, I was indeed having a rough time making notes to reference later. His film storage library blew my mind. Afterwards I decided to look him up on the internet and this man has more entries than you can imagine and his career spans decades! I did however feel like a mole after spending so much time in his basement studio because I need light, light, light as an artist! The site logo I felt I had to share it with you. There were some ideas for a 3D project, but I am not sure I am ready for video production, but we will see!

2D Evolution
It was great to see where everyone went with their original concept for the 2D project. IMy direction and experiment gave me a lot of information, but I do know now that I am giving up on gesso canvas for a long time. Canvas paper is new to me but definitely a surface I am happy to know. After collaging all three of my separate word pieces it got very interesting. When they started melding I realized that all three words exist in our urban lives as everyday we are curiouser with situations we encounter and often we see parts of ourselves mirrored in those we interact with. Definitely changed my original concept for my 3D piece, thinking Urban Ore is a place for inspiration!

Am I Ready to Blog?
Wow, well here I am. This is my second blog adventure, but it has been two years so bear with me. Our first class I was trying to take everything in and there was a lot. Much to experiment with and lots of ideas swimming around in my head. Mind you not all of them apply to our class as I am taking two other classes. My words "urban," "mirrored," and curriouser" I chose seemed unrelated to me at first. Then as I was driving home I realized at least for two, Alice through the Looking Glass hit me. So I had a departure point.
Our workshop was awesome and I had either forgotten or never done half of the techniques. It was a treat to have all the materials and equipment to play with as much as I wanted. As the day flew by the ideas I thought at first might be a project for the Happening did not seem to apply so I plunged off in different directions for each of my words. Alice did crop up for mirrored as she existed on both sides of the looking glass as well as her famous "curiouser and curiouser" comment to herself as she felt she was going quite mad. For those of you who have forgotten the tale or never had the opportunity to know Alice this is a good place to ponder her comments:
How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail,
And pour the water of the Nile
On every golden scale!
How cheerfully he seems to grin,
How neatly spread his claws,
And welcomes little fishes in,
With gently smiling jaws!
This was not the way she had remembered from her lessons her tutor gave her, but then nothing in Wonderland was at all like back home.
